From the Premier League to LaLiga, and Serie A this weekend, several Nigerians will be on show for their clubs, and these are the five most exciting ones to keep an eye out for this weekend.
Ola Aina — Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City
Super Eagles defender Ola Aina could have a huge say in the battle for the top four in the Premier League when Nottingham Forest host Manchester City this weekend.
The Tricky Tees are currently third on the Premier League table, one point ahead of Manchester City in fourth and two ahead of Chelsea in fifth, meaning the stakes for this weekend’s match will be sky high.
Luckily for Nottingham Forest, they currently have one of the best defenders in the Premier League in Aina to ward of Manchester City’s star-studded attack.
Umar Sadiq — Valencia vs Real Valladolid
Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq looks to be finding his feet in LaLiga finally after his recent move on loan to Valencia from Real Sociedad.
Sadiq has scored three goals in his last three games for Valencia, including a vital equaliser for Los Che in the derby against Villarreal and a brace against Osasuna.
The Super Eagles forward will be eager to continue his current run of form against Real Valladolid, especially with the decision for the final 23-man squad for Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers set to be announced soon.
Ademola Lookman — Juventus vs Atalanta
Superstar forward Ademola Lookman will be eager to get back among the goals when Atalanta make another play for the Serie A title in a big clash against Juventus.
Lookman was unable to find the back of the net in Atalanta’s last Serie A game against Verona, but having scored 12 goals and provided five assists in the league this season, odds are that the Nigerian will have an impact against the Old Lady.
Despite scoring two goals in five games against Juventus, Lookman has never been able to beat Juventus with Atalanta, and La Dea will be desperate for all three points against a fellow title contender.
Wilfred Ndidi — Chelsea vs Leicester City
Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi will also be in action as Leicester City travel to Stamford Bridge, hoping to fight off the relegation demons that are banging on their gate.
The Foxes have won only on match in their last 10 in the Premier League, and that came five games ago against Tottenham, leaving them 19th on the table, with only 17 points, five adrift of safety.
Leicester City have to improve their form immediately to stand any chance of staying in the Premier League and Ndidi will have to helpp steer them towards safety, starting against Chelsea.
Chrisantus Uche — Getafe vs Atletico Madrid
Super Eagles debut invitee Chrisantus Uche has the chance to impress Eric Chelle some more and make it into the final 23-man squad when his Getafe side takes on Atletico Madrid in LaLiga.
Getafe will be keen on spoiling their neighbours’ title charge, and their plans to do that will centre around the Nigerian midfielder/striker.
Uche’s three goals and two assists mean that the Nigerian has been directly involved in the second-most goals in LaLiga for Getafe this season, adding to the thankless work of constantly pressing the opponents he does for the Azulones.
