The Gunners have been granted the opportunity to swoop in for one of Chelsea’s long-term transfer targets as they look to strengthen their attacking options following an injury crisis.

With the January transfer window nearing its conclusion, the Gunners remain in the market for a striker, and a late move for Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel could now be on the cards.

Arsenal in pole position as Chelsea interest fades

Chelsea had shown interest in Tel earlier in the window, but at the time, Bayern Munich made it clear that the 19-year-old was not for sale. 

However, with just five days left before the deadline, that stance may have softened, as Tel has requested a move away from the club.

The French forward found himself on the fringes of Bayern’s squad, featuring as an unused substitute in three of their last four Bundesliga matches, and in his only recent appearance, he came off the bench for 45 minutes and provided an assist.

At the beginning of the transfer window, Bayern were unwilling to entertain offers, and Tel himself remained committed to the German champions. 

However, limited game time appears to have changed his perspective, with reports now indicating that the young forward is open to a Premier League switch.

A move to Chelsea seems increasingly unlikely, as reports suggest that Tel has ruled out joining Enzo Maresca’s squad due to intense competition for places at Stamford Bridge. 

This has created an opening for other clubs to step in, with Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham all monitoring the situation closely.

Due to the injury crisis in Arsenal’s attack, Tel will get more opportunities if he joins the Gunners, and the North Londoners are reportedly prepared to launch a bid to bring him to the Emirates.
