2025 AKPIA Postdoctoral Fellowship at Harvard University

The Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture (AKPIA) at Harvard University is inviting applications for its 2025–2026 Postdoctoral Fellow / Visiting Scholar Program.

This paid research fellowship  is open to recent PhD graduates and mid-career scholars specializing in Islamic art, architecture, archaeology, and material culture.

Opportunity Overview

• Institution: Harvard University, Department of History of Art and Architecture
• Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts (residence required)
• Duration: Minimum 3 months (between September and May) to a maximum 12 months
• Funding: A minimum stipend of $5,633.33 per month (pre-tax) (subject to final budget approval)
• Research Output: A lecture and a submission to the Muqarnas journal

Eligibility Criteria

• PhD in Islamic Art History, Architectural History, or Archaeology (or a related field)
• Research experience in Islamic Art History (e.g., teaching, museum work, publications)
• Strong English language skills (both written and spoken)
• Ability to reside in Cambridge, MA for the appointment period
