Bye Sanchez – Chelsea prepare to bid for Champions League finalist

‘Not long enough’ - Chelsea’s Cole Palmer rules out career choice after retirement

According to reports, Chelsea is interested in Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel as they search for a possible Robert Sanchez replacement.

Since Sanchez arrived in 2023, the goalkeeper has made several high-profile mistakes that have cost the team valuable points.

His recent mistake was against Manchester City last weekend, where he gifted Erling Haaland a goal to take the lead in their 3-1 defeat at the Etihad.

Although Sanchez has received public backing from Enzo Maresca, the team is eager to find a trustworthy substitute who can match their technical and tactical requirements.

Chelsea eyeing Kobel’s move

According to the Independent, Kobel’s outstanding distribution and shot-stopping abilities have led to his inclusion on the shortlist as an ideal contender.

Kobel, who has been with the German side, has caught the eyes of top teams in Europe in the January transfer.

Manchester United are also in the race to sign the Swiss international following concerns about Andre Onana’s performance.

However, due to their current Champions League campaign, Dortmund is not thinking about making a midseason transfer.

They have qualified for the Champions League play-off round and will face either Sporting CP or Club Brugge in an attempt to proceed to the round of 16, where they may face Lille or Aston Villa.

It will take an extra effort from both clubs to convince Dortmund to do a deal with them, but no bid has been made yet for the goalkeeper.
