American-born Nigerian star Inkosi Brou is making waves in the fencing world with his sights set firmly on the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Born and raised in the United States, Brou made a decisive decision in October 2023 to represent Nigeria, despite being an unranked 15-year-old at the time.

Noah Lyles showed his loverboy side again by gifting his fiancée Junelle Bromfield something to cherish forever from the Paris Olympic Games.
His dedication and hard work have paid off, as he has risen to 23rd in the world junior rankings and 64th overall as of January 2025, making him the second-highest-ranked African fencer at the junior level globally.
Since the start of the fencing season in September 2024, Brou has participated in seven major tournaments worldwide. His standout performance came at the 2024 World Cup in Colombia, where he finished 10th among 216 fencers, showcasing his potential on an international stage.
Inkosi Brou is the second-highest-ranked African fencer at the junior level in the world.
Brou’s journey has been fuelled by a strong commitment to his sport. He reflected on his rapid ascent, crediting his success to his coaches and emphasising that this ranking is just a stepping stone toward his Olympic aspirations.
“When I started fencing internationally for Nigeria in October 2023, I did not even have an international junior ranking,” he said.
“To have improved so drastically… has been an amazing journey that would not have been possible without extreme dedication and consistent training.”
Travelling extensively for competitions has also enriched Brou’s experience. He expressed enthusiasm about immersing himself in different cultures while competing, noting that balancing academics with travel has been challenging yet rewarding.
“I have become more efficient, more disciplined, and more flexible while also drastically improving my time management,” he shared.
Looking ahead to 2025, Brou aims to secure a medal at the African Junior Championships in Angola and achieve a top-eight finish at the African Senior Championships.
He also hopes for a strong showing at the upcoming Junior World Championships in China. “Overall, I view 2025 as another step in my Olympic journey,” he stated.
Brou is optimistic about the future of fencing in Nigeria, especially with upcoming events like the Fencing World Cup scheduled for 2024. He believes that hosting such tournaments will help elevate the sport’s profile and inspire young athletes across the country.
Brou wants to put Nigeria’s fencing on the global map at the Olympics.
“I am very excited for the future of fencing in Nigeria,” he concluded.
With his sights set on Los Angeles 2028, Inkosi Brou embodies determination and ambition, aiming not only for personal success but also to pave the way for future generations of Nigerian fencers.
