Despite dominating possession, Mikel Arteta’s side struggled to convert their chances, while the Magpies made theirs count, with Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon delivering clinical finishes to give Newcastle a crucial 2-0 advantage.  

Since that setback, Arsenal have rediscovered their form, winning five of their last seven matches, including a statement 5-1 thrashing of Manchester City. They also head into this second leg on a four-game winning streak.  

Newcastle, meanwhile, have endured a more inconsistent run, losing two of their five matches since their first-leg triumph, including a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Fulham last weekend.

Newcastle could receive a boost with Callum Wilson and Joelinton both nearing full fitness and in contention to feature. However, Jamaal Lascelles and Harvey Barnes remain sidelined and will play no part in this clash.  

For Arsenal, Bukayo Saka is unavailable as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury. Gabriel Jesus has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, while defensive duo Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu will also miss out.
