Barcelona have reportedly added Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta to their summer transfer shortlist as they prepare to strengthen their attack.
Mateta, who initially struggled in the Premier League after joining the Eagles in January 2021, has been in outstanding form since the 2023/24 season. He netted 16 league goals from December to May and has continued his hot streak this campaign with 10 goals so far.
His impressive performances earned him a spot in France’s Olympic squad, where he scored five goals en route to the final, though Spain ultimately claimed gold. His consistency over the last 14 months has drawn interest from major clubs, with Spanish outlet Fichajes reporting that Barcelona are keen on securing his services.

While Robert Lewandowski remains a key figure at 36, Barcelona are eager to add a reliable alternative up front to provide depth and rotation options. Mateta, under contract with Crystal Palace until 2027, is viewed as a feasible and cost-effective target for the Catalan giants.
The 27-year-old has been a standout performer for Palace, recently leading them to a 2-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford with both goals. Manager Oliver Glasner praised his instincts and work ethic, highlighting his ability to make decisive runs and finish inside the box.
Palace triggered an extension in Mateta’s contract in December, but negotiations over a further renewal stalled due to unmet demands. Talks could resume, but with Barcelona in the mix, the Frenchman may find a move to La Liga hard to resist.
