Ange Postecoglou brushed off Jamie Redknapp’s harsh criticism following Tottenham’s crushing Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to Liverpool.
Spurs entered the second leg with a one-goal lead but were dismantled at Anfield, conceding to Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool’s dominant display secured a 4-1 aggregate victory, setting up a Wembley showdown against Newcastle on March 16. Tottenham, meanwhile, were left reeling, failing to register a single shot on target throughout the match.
Redknapp, analyzing the game on Sky Sports, was stunned by Spurs’ lackluster display. “I can’t recall a team surrendering with less fight,” he remarked. “A semi-final second leg, an opportunity to change history, and they didn’t even test the keeper. I feel for the young players—Djed Spence played all over the pitch, and the senior players failed to lead.”
Postecoglou, however, dismissed the remarks. “Everyone is entitled to their opinion,” he said. “I don’t need to respond, and I’m not affected by it. Whether it’s Jamie Redknapp or anyone else, I don’t care.”
The Spurs boss acknowledged Liverpool’s superiority, lamenting his side’s inability to impose themselves. “We fell short of the required levels. Liverpool are an excellent team, and we weren’t aggressive enough with or without the ball. We let them dictate the game, and they were simply better.”
Despite the setback, Postecoglou hopes his squad can bounce back in their upcoming FA Cup clash against Aston Villa. “It’s disappointing—we had a great chance to reach a final but didn’t take it. Now, it’s about learning from this and making amends with a strong performance on Sunday.”
