In response to this, Icardi referenced Mourinho’s self-proclaimed “Special One” title by calling him “The Crying One” and posting an image of an alleged handball by a Fenerbahce player that was not penalised.

Mourinho addressed Icardi’s comments by stating: “In relation to the comments or the [social media] posts of Icardi, Icardi is a GOAT.”

“I refuse to comment on a GOAT’S words. He’s too big, I do not comment,” Mourinho said in a video shared by Sky Sports on TikTok.

Speaking further, Mourinho added; “I am sure that I am a special one, not the special one… With 25 years of career and with 26 titles and not with one match. There is not one match to define my career. My career is a career of 25 years.”

This exchange is the latest in a series of events where Mourinho has publicly criticised the standard of officiating in the Turkish league, even describing it as “toxic” and full of “scandal”.

After a controversial victory by Galatasaray over Goztepe, Mourinho stated, “The only thing I can say is that after 25 years as a coach, and 35 in football, 10 as an assistant, I have never seen anything similar to this.”
