Antony thriving outside Old Trafford

Antony joined Manchester United for a mouthwatering €100 million transfer fee. Given the fee paid to acquire his services, much was expected from the Brazil international. However, he failed to match expectations, managing only 12 goals in his two-and-a-half years at the club.

As such, the Red Devils are prepared to cut their losses. However, he was placed on loan to help improve his transfer value, as according to Transfermarkt, his valuation has dropped to €20 million.

Real Betis snapped him up on a six-month loan and Manuel Pellegrini wasted no time in integrating Antony into the starting lineup as soon as he became available for selection.

He quickly won over the hearts of his new fans, playing a pivotal role in the team’s opening goal in the 2-2 stalemate against Athletic Club. He then went on to score in his next two appearances, first in the 3-2 loss to Celta Vigo and again in the 3-0 thrashing of Gent in the Conference League, showcasing his impressive goal-scoring form.

What Amorim said

Ahead of the Red Devils clash against Tottenham, Amorim was confronted about Antony’s form and immediate assimilation at Betis, a jarring contrast to his stint at Manchester United.

Amorim said, “I don’t know; sometimes it’s like that; it can happen with any club.”

“This club has a lot of pressure and you have to have a base of a team to put younger and talented players that came from abroad to help them.

“If you are playing better as a team and you have a strong core like it’s supposed to be at this club, it will be more easy for these kind of players to play football.”
