However, Guardiola is clearly not buying that argument.

“My English is good, but I don’t understand the difference between ‘f— off’ and ‘f— you’,” The City boss said in his pre-game presser on Tuesday.

“But what’s important is the intention, not the insult. The best thing is not to do it and leave the referees in peace.”

Manchester City are trailing 3-2 from the first leg after they blew a lead twice, and anything other than a win will see the 2023 champions knocked out.

However, after the 4-0 win over Newcastle at the weekend, there is confidence among the City support that a comeback is possible.
