The Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has once again adjourned until 15 April 2025 the alleged defamation case brought by human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, and his son Folarin, popularly known as Falz, against social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, VDM.

The presiding judge, Justice Matthias Dawodu, adjourned the case at the instance of VDM after the court received a letter from his legal representatives, the law firm of Deji Adeyanju & Co.

In the letter, dated 18 February 2025 and written by a counsel in the firm, Nafiu Alagbe, the lawyer asked the court to adjourn the case to a date in March or April due to the absence of the lead defence counsel, Marvin Omorogbe, who was said to be unavailable because of a domestic emergency.

At Wednesday’s hearing, while VDM was absent from court, Falana was present.

Omotayo Olatunbosun, counsel for the Falanas, informed the court that the letter was merely a time-wasting tactic on the part of the defendants.

However, on the prompting of the court, the counsel proceeded to move his counter-affidavit challenging the preliminary objection filed by VDM against the defamation suit.

Following this development, Justice Dawodu adjourned the case until 15 April 2025 for a hearing.
