The Spurs released a statement saying, “Wembanyama’s condition was discovered when he returned to San Antonio after the All-Star Game in San Francisco.”

Wembanyama, a 21-year-old center, is already regarded one of the league’s top big men.

He was averaging 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 3.6 blocks per game for San Antonio this season, with a 23-29 record ranked 12th in the Western Conference.

Wembanyama, the first overall choice in the 2023 NBA draft, entered the league as perhaps the best basketball talent since LeBron James in 2003.

Last season, the Frenchman earned NBA Rookie of the Year after averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.6 blocks, 1.8 3-pointers, and 1.2 steals per game.

He was the first player to record at least 1,500 points, 700 rebounds, 250 assists, 250 blocks, and 100 three-pointers in a season.
