Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy have said that any talks to end the war with Russia must include Kyiv at the negotiating table.
The two leaders stated this in a phone call on Thursday.
Recall that President Donald Trump of the United States is pushing for a quick deal to end the war, alarming Washington’s European allies by leaving them and Ukraine out of initial talks with Russia last week.
According to a readout of the call with Zelenskiy released by Trudeau’s office, the leaders stressed that any peaceful end to the conflict must include Ukraine at the negotiating table.
Canada has one of the world’s biggest Ukrainian diasporas outside of countries that border Ukraine, and Ottawa has been one of Kyiv’s staunchest supporters in the conflict with Moscow.
In his call with Zelenskiy, the Canadian prime minister reiterated his country’s support for Ukraine, emphasizing that there can be no sustainable peace in Europe without security for Ukraine.
