The main gate of the Benue High Court complex in Makurdi has been barricaded with sharp sand, while stern-looking security personnel keep vigil.
DAILY POST gathered that this development may be connected to the ongoing controversy surrounding the purported removal of the Chief Judge, Justice Maurice Ikpambwese, by a resolution of the Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
However, a source who pleaded anonymity said the entrance was blocked with sharp sand because the Ministry of Works and Housing had begun renovations on the court complex.
A security officer at the complex stated that they were present at the High Court premises to maintain law and order.
The Benue State House of Assembly has recommended the removal of the Chief Judge over alleged gross misconduct, a move that has generated tension in the state.
Meanwhile, the Assembly has suspended 13 members who opposed the purported removal of the Chief Judge.
The suspended members have dismissed their suspension as a nullity, arguing that it did not follow due process.
Also, the National Judicial Council, NJC, has voided the removal of the Chief Judge.
