Leaving Manchester United appears to be the best thing that ever happened to Brazilian winger Antony
Manchester United loanee Antony has rediscovered his joy for football since joining Real Betis, admitting he now “wakes up every day with a smile.”
The Brazilian winger, who struggled at Old Trafford, has been in scintillating form in Spain, scoring three goals in four matches and winning three Player of the Match awards.
Antony thrives under Real Betis’ sunny atmosphere
Antony reflected on his challenging spell in Manchester but expressed gratitude for his time there, acknowledging the two titles he won with the club.
However, he was clear about how much happier he feels in Spain, saying, “I’ve had a great time in Manchester too, I won two titles and I’m very grateful.
“But when I say that I’ve found myself here, I’m happy, the people are like us in Brazil. The sun helps a lot. I wake up every day with a smile, and that’s very important.”
His seamless adaptation to Betis was influenced by former players who encouraged him to make the move.
The Spanish side also helped him settle by covering a significant portion of his £100,000-per-week wages as part of the loan agreement.
Betis open to permanent move as Antony forms key partnerships
Antony’s impressive start has already sparked discussions about a permanent deal, with Betis showing interest in keeping him beyond this season.
Meanwhile, Manchester United will be keen to recoup part of their initial investment after his underwhelming stint in the Premier League.
A key factor in Antony’s resurgence has been his partnership with Isco and Giovani Lo Celso, two experienced midfielders who have boosted his confidence on the pitch.
The Brazilian forward said, “Isco is a great player, he has a lot of experience, he is a star and we all know it. He tells me that he is very happy for me. Having him by my side is easier, you get along very well with him. With Lo Celso too. And with other teammates, too.”
Managed by Manuel Pellegrini, Real Betis currently sit eighth in LaLiga, aiming for European qualification while still competing in the Europa Conference League.
