Arsenal fans have taken to social media to mock Tottenham after reports surfaced about a secret email Spurs allegedly sent to Premier League broadcasters regarding a name change.
According to The Athletic, the email titled “Tottenham Hotspur Naming Update” was sent on February 10, requesting that the club no longer be referred to simply as “Tottenham” in broadcasts. Instead, they want to be called by their full name, “Tottenham Hotspur,” or their nickname, “Spurs.”
The news quickly became a source of amusement for Arsenal supporters, especially on Reddit, where users wasted no time trolling their rivals.
One fan quipped, “Makes sense. The name is already synonymous with ‘st.’”** Another added, “I’ll do my part by continuing to call them st.”** A third joked about their stadium: “Swirling down their toilet bowl… at least American football teams have had success there.”
Tottenham’s struggles this season have only fueled the banter. Currently 12th in the Premier League amid an injury crisis, they were knocked out of the FA Cup in the fourth round by Aston Villa and suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Pundit Jamie Carragher didn’t hold back after that defeat, tearing into Spurs live on Sky Sports: “It was never in doubt. It’s Tottenham. When do they ever win a big game? When do they ever shock you and beat the odds? Never.”
Spurs now pin their last hopes for silverware on the Europa League, where they face AZ Alkmaar in the last 16. But given their recent form, few expect them to break their trophy drought that dates back to 2008.
