United States President, Donald Trump has said that the imposition of tariffs on Canada and Mexico will go forward on schedule.

Trump stated this at a joint news conference at the White House with French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday.

He repeated his complaint that other countries have taken advantage of the United States.

“We are on time with the tariffs, and it seems like that is moving along very rapidly,” Trump said.

“The tariffs are going forward on time, on schedule,” the president added.

This comes after the initial deadline for the tariffs on Canada and Mexico on February 1, 2025 was paused by Trump.

Meanwhile, Canada and Mexico are expected to step up efforts this week to avoid punishing 25% tariffs on their exports to the US in talks to persuade Trump’s administration that their steps to increase border security and control fentanyl trafficking are working ahead of a March 4 deadline.
