Born in Canada to Nigerian parents, David has represented Nigeria twice at the U-23 level but has now applied to play for Canada at the full international level.
What David said
In an interview with The Athletic, David explained that his decision was driven by a sense of gratitude and loyalty to Canadian football, which he believes has played a major role in his development as a player.
“Canadian football raised me. So I feel like I owe it back to Canada to perform for them,” David said.
David’s decision will be a boost to Canada’s national team, which has been on the rise in recent years.
