Tell yourself the truth — Guardiola sends message to De Bruyne over Man City contract

I see a bright future for Man City — Guardiola reacts to Liverpool defeat

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has sent a strong warning to Kevin De Bruyne ahead of the expiration of his contract this summer.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has given Kevin De Bruyne a candid message as the midfielder weighs his future with the Premier League champions.

De Bruyne’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and City will allow him to decide his next move after a decade at the club.

De Bruyne has faced criticism lately, particularly after being left on the bench for the 5-1 defeat at Arsenal and not playing a minute against Real Madrid.

His performance in Sunday’s loss to Liverpool also drew scrutiny, with some suggesting that his body can no longer cope with the demands of the Premier League.

Guardiola, however, is leaving the decision entirely up to De Bruyne.

“I think in that situation he has to decide, that is the most important thing.

“He has to be completely honest with himself, to decide what he feels and what he can do in the next period of his life.

“He is 34 in the summer and he has to decide, like what happened with David Silva for example.”

Guardiola’s comments suggest that De Bruyne will have the freedom to choose his next step, whether that’s staying at City, moving to a new club, or even retiring, but the reference to Silva also suggests this may be time for him to move on.
