They will - South African coach backs Nigeria to qualify for 2026 World Cup

South Africa coach Hugo Broos has backed Nigeria’s Super Eagles to rebound in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Despite Nigeria’s disappointing start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign, South Africa head coach Hugo Broos believes the Super Eagles have the quality to mount a comeback.

Nigeria has endured a frustrating run, failing to win any of their first four matches, and currently sits second from bottom in their six-team group.

What Broos said

Broos, whose South Africa team is joint-top of the group alongside Rwanda and Benin, expressed surprise at Nigeria’s struggles.

“I am surprised that Nigeria are four points behind us because they have too much quality,” Broos said, as per ScoreNigeria via Soccernet.

The Bafana Bafana boss is confident that the Super Eagles will turn their fortunes around in the next window of matches in March.

“I believe they will come back by the next window. All the teams in our group are still in the running (to qualify for the World Cup),” he added

Nigeria’s new coach, Eric Chelle, will be under pressure to deliver immediate results, with crucial matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe looming in March.

The Super Eagles boast an impressive attacking lineup, featuring Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, and Ademola Lookman, and will be desperate to capitalise on their talents and get their qualification campaign back on track.

With only the top team in the group securing automatic qualification, Nigeria faces a tough challenge to catch up with the leaders.
