Alex Iwobi has claimed that he got several offers to leave Arsenal when he was 16 after he was told he was not good enough.
At the young age of eight, the 28-year-old dynamic midfielder enrolled in the renowned Arsenal Hale End academy in 2004.
However, his young career was almost derailed not once but twice, as he faced the very real possibility of being released by his club at the tender ages of 14 and 16.
The Super Eagles star got offers from several clubs and almost joined Scottish side Celtic before breaking into the Arsenal first team in 2015.

Iwobi disclosed that at the age of 16, he received offers from Crystal Palace and Celtic, but decided to stay at Arsenal and fight for a spot.
“When I was younger, there’s many times I’ve been told, oh, you’re not good enough, you’re not good enough, and that was just another moment.

“I was the only one playing for England at the time that didn’t get offered a professional contract where there was like six of them.
“So I only just had a scholar and they said, ‘oh, if you want to go, you can go’. So I was meant to go to Celtic. I went to see Crystal Palace.

“I know there was one more team I can’t remember, but I remember going to Crystal Palace and training ground at 16.
“Me and my dad said ‘no, you’ve been in this position before where they said, you’re not good enough, go prove them wrong again’. So I was like, okay, cool, I’m going to sign my scholar,” Iwobi said on the Fulham Fix Podcast.
The Nigerian international later moved to Everton following the arrival of Mikel Arteta before joining Fulham in 2023.
In 27 games for Marco Silva’s club, the Super Eagles player has seven goals and three assists, making it his best Premier League season to date.
