National Women’s Soccer League, NWSL, club Portland Thorns have announced that Super Falcons defender Nicole Payne will miss the 2025 season due to a cruciate ligament injury.
Payne sustained the injury in Portland Thorns’ pre-season friendly against Angel City FC on February 16.
The duo of Morgan Weaver and Marrie Muller will also not feature for Portland Thorns this season due to injuries.
Muller sustained a cruciate ligament injury while on international duty with Germany on February 19.
Weaver suffered an injury to her right knee in January 2025, the same knee she had surgery on in May 2024.
Payne joined Portland Thorns on loan from French club Paris Saint-Germain last year.
The 24-year-old made 10 league appearances for Robert Gale’s side last season.
