Manchester United Star Defended After Costly Red Card

Denmark manager Brian Riemer has backed Manchester United’s Patrick Dorgu following his red card in the dramatic 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

The thrilling encounter saw Ipswich take an early lead before United responded to go 2-1 up. However, momentum shifted when Dorgu was sent off for a reckless tackle on Omari Hutchinson—a decision confirmed after a VAR review. Despite being down to ten men, United secured the win thanks to a Harry Maguire header early in the second half.

It was a tough night for Dorgu, who not only received a red card but also played a role in Ipswich’s opener due to a mix-up with goalkeeper Andre Onana. Riemer, however, sympathized with the young defender, insisting such mistakes are part of a footballer’s development.

“I feel for him. No player wants to be in that position,” Riemer told Campo.dk. “But from a coaching perspective, it’s not about poor tactical decisions or lack of skill. It was a miscommunication, something every defender experiences at some point.”

Dorgu, who has earned four caps for Denmark since making his international debut last year, will now miss United’s domestic fixtures, including their FA Cup clash with Fulham and league matches against Arsenal and Leicester.

When asked whether Dorgu is ready for the Premier League, United boss Ruben Amorim defended the 20-year-old. “He’s proven himself already. Every player can make mistakes. Last week, he had a great game against Everton, but one mistake today doesn’t change that. He’s still ready for this level,” Amorim stated.

Dorgu’s suspension applies only to domestic games, meaning he remains eligible for United’s upcoming Europa League ties against Real Sociedad, with the first leg in Spain on March 6 and the return match at Old Trafford the following week.
