A High Court in Yola has postponed the hearing of a lawsuit challenging the Adamawa State Government’s establishment of the Fufore Emirate to April 3, 2025.

Presiding over the case on Tuesday, Justice Musa Usman adjourned proceedings to allow the defense time to respond to a cross-affidavit filed by the state government.

The Fufore Emirate was one of two emirates and seven chiefdoms created by the government in December 2024. However, three plaintiffs—Musa Halilu Ahmed, Alhaji Mustapha Dahiru Mustapha, and Alhaji Mustapha Ahmad, all prominent titleholders in the Adamawa Emirate—filed a suit seeking to nullify the emirate’s creation, arguing that it undermines the region’s historical and cultural heritage.

During the court session, the plaintiffs’ lead counsel, Manga Nuruddeen (SAN), requested additional time to reply to the government’s submission.

Adamawa’s Commissioner for Justice, Afraimo Jingi, disclosed that the government had initially sought to have the case dismissed on procedural grounds. However, the plaintiffs later requested that certain legal issues be referred to the Court of Appeal, a move the state government opposed.

With the adjournment, the plaintiffs now have time to file their response before the court resumes hearing the main motion.
