Nigerian football fan have taken to social media to express their disappointment and outrage over the omission of Cyriel Dessers from the Super Eagles squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Eric Chelle released the final 23-man squad for the Rwanda and Zimbabwe clash.

Chelle omit Desser from 23-man squad

The final list saw defenders Bruno Onyemaechi and Bright Osayi-Samuel, midfielders Raphael Onyedika and Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi, and forwards Samuel Chukwueze and Sadiq Umar.

Also in the list are Czech Republic-based defender Igoh Ogbu makes the final cut, alongside home-based midfielder Papa Daniel Mustapha, and Belgium-based forward Tolu Arokodare.

Stanley Nwabali and Kayode Bankole, defenders William Ekong, Calvin Bassey and Olaoluwa Aina, midfielders Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi, and forwards Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen and Simon Moses complete the list.

Dessers, a talented striker who plays for Rangers in the Scottish premier league, he has recorded 11 goals and two assists so far this season.

However, his omission from the squad has raised eyebrows, with fan questioning the decision made by Eric Chelle.

The fan said, “The NFF is very unfair to Dessers. He’s currently our best no. 9 after Osimhen this season. Why was he left out?”
