Former Nigerian international Friday Ekpo is confident that the Super Eagles’ attacking trio of Victor Osimhen, Tolu Arokodare, and Victor Boniface will be too much for Rwanda and Zimbabwe to handle in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Nigeria will kick off their training camp on March 16 before facing Rwanda in Kigali, followed by a crucial home match against Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on March 25. The Super Eagles are yet to find consistency in the qualifiers, with just one win and three draws from four matches.
Currently sitting fifth in Group C behind Rwanda, South Africa, Benin Republic, and Lesotho, Nigeria must secure back-to-back wins to keep their World Cup hopes alive. Failure to do so would put them at serious risk of missing out on the tournament.
Ekpo, speaking with softfootball.com, expressed confidence in the attacking firepower selected by new head coach Eric Chelle. He believes the in-form trio will make the difference in these decisive fixtures.
“I know the Super Eagles are in a tough position right now, but looking at our attacking options, I’m very optimistic. These players are in great form for their clubs and will be too hot for Rwanda and Zimbabwe to handle,” Ekpo stated.
He also praised Chelle for selecting players based on their club performances, rather than reputation alone. According to Ekpo, this approach gives Nigeria the best chance of success in the upcoming qualifiers.
With high expectations and pressure mounting, all eyes will be on Osimhen, Boniface, and Arokodare to deliver when it matters most.
The Super Eagles are desperate for victories, and with their attacking stars leading the charge, fans will be hoping for a much-needed turnaround. Securing six points from these matches could reignite their push for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
