2025 Maynooth University Fully Funded PhD Scholarship

The ICARUS Climate Research Centre at Maynooth University is thrilled to announce a fully funded PhD Scholarship for one student intending to begin their PhD studies in September 2025.

This prestigious scholarship is part of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-funded project (2025–2029) focused on event attribution related to climatic extremes in Ireland.

Scholarship Overview

The successful candidate will contribute to a groundbreaking research project analyzing the impacts of human-induced climate change on historical Irish climatic extremes. This will involve collaboration with esteemed experts, including Prof. Peter Thorne, colleagues at ICARUS, and the World Weather Attribution (WWA) group at Imperial College Of London .

The project includes regular, fully funded trips to London to foster international collaboration, providing the student with an exceptional opportunity to engage in global climate research.

Scholarship Benefits

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • A first-class or 2.1 honours primary degree or a relevant Master’s degree in disciplines such as: meteorology and climate, environmental science, statistics, or geography.
  • Experience with computer programming.
  • Experience handling large datasets.
  • Strong teamworking skills.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with climate datasets.
  • Knowledge of mid latitude region meteorology.
  • Prior experience with media.
