Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed the club is pushing to sign a new striker before the January transfer window closes.

This follows their hard-fought 2-1 win over Tottenham in the north London derby, which brought them within four points of Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Tottenham took the lead at the Emirates through Son Heung-min, but Arsenal equalized after a corner deflected in off Dominic Solanke. Moments before halftime, Leandro Trossard’s clinical finish gave the Gunners the advantage.

Arteta deployed Kai Havertz as the central striker, flanked by Trossard and Raheem Sterling, but the team’s offensive depth remains a concern.

With key players Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus sidelined—Saka potentially out for three months and Jesus indefinitely—reinforcements are a top priority.

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand, Arteta confirmed Arsenal’s striker search: “Yes, for sure. Losing Bukayo and Gabby is significant.

Saka might be out for up to three months, and Jesus for an extended period. With only 14 fit players and a packed schedule, we need to act.”

Arteta emphasized the urgency of securing reinforcements before the window closes, though he acknowledged the challenges: “We are trying to find the right player, but we’ll see what’s possible.”

As Arsenal continues their title push, their next moves in the transfer market could be decisive.
