Napoli are closing in on personal terms with Alejandro Garnacho as they intensify their search for a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who has joined Paris Saint-Germain.
Antonio Conte has identified Garnacho as the perfect successor to the Georgian star. Speaking ahead of his PSG medical on Friday, Kvaratskhelia said,
“It’s a dream to be here. I’ve heard a lot of positive things about Paris Saint-Germain. I feel immense pride in joining.”
Garnacho has struggled for consistency since Ruben Amorim took over as Manchester United manager in November, replacing Erik ten Hag.
While United recently rejected Napoli’s €40m bid plus add-ons, Serie A leaders Napoli are preparing an improved €50m offer, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Despite reportedly agreeing personal terms, Napoli are not willing to wait long for United’s decision.
They are also keeping tabs on Marcus Rashford and may shift focus to Deportivo La Coruna’s Yeremay Hernandez if the Garnacho deal stalls.
United view Garnacho’s sale as pure profit due to his homegrown status but remain undecided.
The FA Cup victory over Arsenal on penalties marked Garnacho’s return to Amorim’s starting XI after being sidelined since a loss to Nottingham Forest in December.
He retained his place in the comeback win against Southampton on Thursday.
Addressing Garnacho’s future, Amorim commented, “He has talent but must adapt to new roles.
