Kishane Thompson debuts 2025 season with massive statement, clocks fifth fastest time in Jamaican history

Jamaican speed champion Kishane Thompson kicked off his season on an outstanding note, sending massive statement to his rivals.

Olympic 100m silver medallist Kishane Thompson began his 2025 season with a massive statement by clocking the fifth-fastest 60m time in Jamaican history at the Central Hurdles, Relays, and Field Events Meet in Kingston.

Thompson blazed to a brilliant personal best of 6.48s (-2.1m/s) to win the event, edging Nishion Ebanks to second in 6.54s.

His blistering time propelled him to No. 5 on the Jamaican all-time list indoors or outdoors for 60m, behind Ackeem Blake’s 6.42s, Asafa Powell’s 6.44s, Yohan Blake’s 6.45s, and Lerone Clarke’s 6.47s.

(function (v, d, o, ai) {
ai = d.createElement(‘script’);
ai.defer = true;
ai.async = true;
ai.src = v.location.protocol + o;
d.head.appendChild(ai);
})(window, document, ‘//a.vdo.ai/core/v-pulsesports-ng-v2/vdo.ai.js’);

Consequently, the talented speedster’s performance further sealed his status as the main force in the men’s 60m and 100m this season and a top favourite to challenge Noah Lyles for the world title in the summer.

Thompson is scheduled to compete in his first series of indoor races, and based on his season’s debut in Kingston, the fastest runner last year (he ran the world’s fastest 100m time of 9.77s) is surely knocking on the door of his first 60m medal or title at the World Indoor Championships in March.
