Premier League: Super-sub Nunez keeps Liverpool flying in title race with stoppage time brace

Darwin Nunez came off the bench to help Liverpool defeat Brentford 2-0 and maintain their lead at the PL summit.

Talk about super-sub. Liverpool looked destined to drop points against a spirited Brentford side but Nunez delivered the goods in dramatic fashion.

The Reds made a slow start, but gradually took control, with Dominik Szoboszlai hitting the crossbar as Arne Slot’s men continued to probe.

Arsenal fans on social media were getting excited the longer the game stayed goalless, while Liverpool continued to pile on the pressure.

(function (v, d, o, ai) {
ai = d.createElement(‘script’);
ai.defer = true;
ai.async = true;
ai.src = v.location.protocol + o;
d.head.appendChild(ai);
})(window, document, ‘//a.vdo.ai/core/v-pulsesports-ng-v2/vdo.ai.js’);

Despite Brentford’s rearguard standing strong, The Reds eventually found a way.

Second-half substitute Darwin Nunez, who had replaced Luis Diaz, slotted home from close range after being found by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Two minutes later, the Uruguayan struck again, applying a composed finish from Harvey Elliott’s lay-off.

The win extended Liverpool’s unbeaten away run to 11 league matches, while Brentford’s winless run at home stretched to five games.
