Chelsea have been told that Victor Osimhen is not the solution, but who is?
Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has urged the club to refrain from signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
Enzo Maresca’s men have been linked with a move for Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli.
The Nigerian striker has been in prolific form this season, scoring 15 goals in 19 appearances in all competitions.

What Johnson said
However, Johnson believes that Chelsea should instead focus on signing a striker who has already proven themselves in the Premier League.
The former full-back believes that players with experience in the English top flight are a safer bet than those coming from abroad.
“Anyone that’s scoring goals in other leagues, that’s great and that’s a credit to them. But if you’ve got someone that’s already doing it in the Premier League, that has to be a box ticked,” Johnson told Sports Mole.
“There’s certain players like Osimhen, that they look like they have absolutely every attribute to do well in the Premier League, but we’ve seen that before and then sometimes it doesn’t happen. When someone is doing it in the Premier League, if they’re available, that is a safer bet than somebody that isn’t.”
Thereafter, Johnson lauded the contributions of Cole Palmer and the improved Nicolas Jackson but believes that the club still needs to strengthen their attacking options if they want to compete for major honours.
What next for Chelsea?
Chelsea return to Premier League action against Manchester City on Saturday when they travel to the Etihad in the rematch of the opening gameweek. Pep Guardiola’s men claimed a 2-0 victory in August.
