Real Madrid may have found a lasting replacement for legendary defender Sergio Ramos.
Real Madrid’s Raúl Asencio is making a name for himself with outstanding performances in defence.
The 21-year-old defender has started the team’s last two games, including a standout showing alongside Antonio Rudiger in the 5-1 win over Salzburg in midweek.
Asencio’s rapid progress has caught the attention of the club’s hierarchy, with reports suggesting that Real Madrid may scrap plans to sign a new center-back in order to give the young defender more opportunities to shine.
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has made it clear he is hoping for one of Los Blancos biggest rivals to crash out of the UEFA Champions League.
His playing style, characterized by his calmness, composure, and front-foot defending, has drawn comparisons to former Real Madrid captain and legend Sergio Ramos.
However, Asencio is keen to forge his own path and make a name for himself, rather than simply being seen as the next Ramos.
“For me, it is an honor to be compared to Sergio Ramos,” Asencio said.
“He’s a role model, but I’m Raúl Asencio and I’ll make my career the best one.”
With nine starts already under his belt this season, Asencio’s stock is rising rapidly.
As he continues to impress, the hope is that he will become an increasingly integral part of Carlo Ancelotti’s plans.
I love this he should rewrite his own story to become a legend and idol
