Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has tasked members of the Governing Council and Management of Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) to improve the school’s rating to at least, number three among the Universities in Nigeria.
Governor Otti gave the task in Umuahia on Friday during the closing ceremony of a 2-day retreat organized for the governing council and management of the Abia State University, Uturu.
He noted that ABSU being rated at number 37 among Universities in Nigeria was not encouraging.
The Governor promised to construct a New Faculty of Law and New Faculty of Agriculture buildings at Uturu to accommodate the faculties billed to return to the main campus at Uturu as recommended by the visitation panel to ABSU.
The Governor said a report he received showed that hostels built for students were in total despair, uninhabitable and in different stages of dilapidation, requiring reconstruction.
He noted also that the report further revealed that ABSU students were living in unhealthy hostels and assured that he would fix the hostels to ensure they had good and decent accommodations.
He urged the institution’s managers to come up with fresh ideas on how to make the school greater.
Speaking, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Professor Uche Emeh Uche said that the single campus policy by the Governor was line with the recommendation of the visitation panel of ASBU.
