After the controversy surrounding Ademola Lookman’s penalty miss due to Gian Piero Gasperini’s emotional outburst, we look at the reasons why the star forward should forgive the manager.

The Atalanta forward was at the center of controversy after his coach, Gasperini, made harsh comments following his penalty miss in the UEFA Champions League clash against Club Brugge. 

Lookman stepped up to take a crucial spot-kick but failed to convert, costing his team an important goal.

After the match, Gasperini openly criticised the Nigerian star, questioning his decision to take the penalty. The coach called him “one of the worst penalty takers he has ever seen”. 

The comments did not sit well with many fans, who felt the coach was too harsh on one of his key players. 

Lookman would later reveal via a social media post, that the designated penalty taker, Mateo Retegui, told him to take it.

However, despite Gasperini’s reaction, there are good reasons why Lookman should let go of the issue and move forward. We have stated three of those reasons in this article.

Gasperini knows this and will continue to rely on him. Instead of holding onto the comments, Lookman should focus on proving his worth on the pitch. Forgiving and moving on will help maintain a good relationship with the coach and teammates.
