Akor Adams signs for Sevilla

The 22-year-old striker has failed to make his mark in Ligue 1 with Montpellier, and he has been linked with a January exit.

It was first reported that Real Betis registered interest and were hoping to bring in Adams this winter. However, their Andalusian rivals eventually landed Adams.

As Pulse Sports reported, the deal went for around €4-5 million, and Adams signed a long-term contract.

Ejuke’s impact

Los Nervionenses have a rich Nigerian presence, with Super Eagles duo Ejuke and Kelechi Iheanacho currently plying their trade at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Adams explained that he could not say no to Sevilla given the size of the institution, especially not after Ejuke made an effort to convince him.

“It has been a great few days; I am very happy,” he said at his unveiling press conference. “We know that Sevilla is a great club and I couldn’t say no. It is a very big club, I am focused on helping the team and the coach.

“In football there are always good times and bad times. I started the year at Montpellier and now I am at Sevilla with great players. You have to think about the future.”

Speaking specifically about Ejuke’s influence, he said, “I spoke to him and he simply told me that I had to come, that I would love it. Kelechi (Iheanacho) too. And I am very happy to have listened to them.”
