Marcus Rashford and Ruben Amorim are still not seeing eye to eye

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has once again hit a thinly-veiled jab at Marcus Rashford, highlighting the stark contrast between the forward and his young teammate Alejandro Garnacho.

While Garnacho has regained favour with Amorim after being dropped for December’s Manchester derby, Rashford remains on the fringes of the squad, casting serious doubt over his future at Old Trafford.

Garnacho’s redemption under Amorim

With transfer speculation surrounding both Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, Amorim has made it clear that he sees them as crucial to United’s future, unlike Rashford, who appears to be heading towards the exit.

Amorim’s frustration with Rashford stems from what he sees as a lack of commitment in training. The 26-year-old forward was dropped for United’s win over City and has struggled to make his way back into the team since.

Meanwhile, Garnacho took Amorim’s criticism to heart, drastically improving his attitude and performances.

Speaking after United’s 2-0 Europa League victory over Steaua Bucharest, Amorim praised Garnacho’s transformation, saying, “He changed right away since that game against City. The way he understands things and understands that I just want to help him. I just want to win games.”

Rashford’s future in doubt as Manchester United plan for new era

The Argentine winger has adapted well to Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, learning to play both as a traditional winger and a No.10.

Amorim also noted how Garnacho has improved his recovery and tactical understanding, a clear indication that the youngster is buying into his manager’s philosophy—something Rashford has yet to do.

Rashford’s continued exile has only fuelled speculation that he could be on his way out of United, with clubs across Europe and the Saudi Pro League monitoring his situation.

Amorim, however, seems unbothered by Rashford’s potential departure, instead focusing on players who fit his long-term vision, saying, “I want players like Kobbie [Mainoo] and Garnacho. The focus is that we have to improve our academy and bring more.”

Both Garnacho and Mainoo have attracted interest from Napoli and Chelsea, mainly due to their high FFP value as homegrown players. However, Amorim remains adamant that they are integral to his plans.
