Amorim tells Rashford what he must do to return to Man Utd squad

Marcus Rashford

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has made a shocking statement about Marcus Rashford’s future at the club.

Ruben Amorim has cast further doubt on Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United future, stating that he would rather play his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach than pick a player who does not give their all in training.

Rashford has not featured for United in over two months and has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

The forward has not played for the Red Devils since December 12 and was absent again as the Manchester outfit got a hard-fought 1-0 win at Fulham.

Amorim’s comments suggest that Rashford’s absence is due to his attitude and application in training rather than any tactical reasons.

The United manager has made it clear that Rashford needs to change his approach if he wants to play for the club again.

“It’s always the same reason,” said Amorim on Rashford’s exile. “The reason is the training. I see what a footballer should do in training, in life. Is every day, every detail. So if things don’t change, I will not change.

“It is same situation for every player, if you do the maximum, if you do the right things, we can use every player. And you see it today on the bench, because we miss a little bit pace, to go and change the game, to move some pieces, but I prefer like that.

“I will put the Vital before I put a player that don’t give the maximum every day. I will not change in that department.”

Rashford is reportedly available for loan this month and has attracted interest from several clubs, including Barcelona.

What next for Man Utd?

Amorim’s side return to action in Thursday’s Europa League match at Steaua Bucharest before hosting Crystal Palace three days later.
