The University of Saskatchewan Robert P. Knowles Scholarship 2025 is open to students entering or continuing full-time graduate studies in a M.Sc. or Ph.D. program engaged in research to develop or apply methods to create, identify or select superior forage, cereal, oilseed, or pulse crops for commercial agriculture.

About University of Saskatchewan

The University of Saskatchewan (U of S, or USask) is a Canadian public research university, founded on March 19, 1907, and located on the east side of the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

An “Act to establish and incorporate a University for the Province of Saskatchewan” was passed by the provincial legislature in 1907. It established the provincial university on March 19, 1907 “for the purpose of providing facilities for higher education in all its branches.

Benefits of the Scholarship

Value:  

  •  Master’s – $30,000/year (2.5 yrs.)
  • PhD – $35,000/year (4 yrs.)
  • $5,000 travel allowance, which may be used over the life of the award.
  • These totals are subject to change at the discretion of the Awards committee.

Requirements

As outlined in the CGPS policy on Centrally Administered Funding, a student may not hold two major internal institutional scholarships at the same time, or a major institutional scholarship and a major external scholarship.

A major scholarship is defined as equal to or more than $17,500 per year. Top-up awards and honorary scholarships at a reduced value may be combined with major scholarships.

It is your responsibility to inform the College of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies of any such funding that you are receiving.

How to Apply

Complete the online application. Applicants must provide:

  • A cover letter detailing the progress or prospective progress of your graduate program
  • Up-to-date CV
  • Outline (no more than 500 words) of the proposed research program and starting date
  • Unofficial transcripts from the University of Saskatchewan.

Three letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with the student’s academic work can be sent in confidence to gradstudies.awards@usask.ca. Please ensure the referee includes the name of the scholarship and the student’s name in the first paragraph of the letter.
