The 20-year-old has equalled Tennis legend Serena Williams.

Coco Gauff has advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open, joining a prestigious group of tennis legends in the process.

The 20-year-old American defeated Leylah Fernandez for the second time in less than three weeks to reach the last 16. Despite not consistently playing her best tennis at Melbourne Park, Gauff has progressed through the early rounds without dropping a set.

She has now won her first eight matches of the season, becoming only the fifth player to achieve this feat.

The other four are tennis icons Serena Williams, Steffi Graf, Margaret Court, and Monica Seles, all multiple Grand Slam champions.

20-year-old Coco Gauff fuels romance rumours with late-night ice cream outing at Australian Open

Romance rumours have surrounded Gauff and Shelton for some time, fueled by their frequent public appearances together.

Gauff’s match against Fernandez started slowly, with the third seed committing 13 unforced errors on her forehand in the first set. Despite also struggling with double faults, Gauff managed to secure the opening set and played with greater consistency in the second to seal the win and maintain her unbeaten start to the season.

In the fourth round, Gauff will face Belinda Bencic. The 27-year-old Bencic has also reached the last 16 in Melbourne, just nine months after giving birth to her daughter, Bella.

This is Bencic’s first Grand Slam appearance since becoming a mother. She advanced to this stage after Naomi Osaka, also a mother, was forced to retire due to injury after losing the first set in a tiebreak.

Osaka had taken a medical timeout earlier in the set but could not continue.

Their match promises to be an exciting contest as they battle for a place in the Australian Open quarter-finals.
