Big mistake to swap De Gea for calamity Onana — Manchester United icon admits

'I am not worried' - Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim confident despite worse record than Ten Hag

Andre Onana has made a series of mistakes since arriving from Inter Milan in July 2023, causing fans to question the club’s decision to let David De Gea leave on a free transfer.

Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker believes his old club made a huge mistake by letting goalkeeper David de Gea leave Old Trafford.

The Red Devils allowed De Gea to depart two years ago, replacing him with Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

However, Parker believes Onana has not been good enough and thinks the club was too hasty in letting De Gea go.

Parker’s comments come on the heels of Manchester United’s disappointing 1-0 Premier League loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

“Looking at the backline now, there’s no great pace,” Parker told Betfred via MetroUK

“And you look at the goalkeeper, I think they made a massive mistake letting David de Gea go so quickly.”

“They could have kept him there, built a team, and then discussed bringing in a new goalkeeper. For me, it’s more important for a goalkeeper to use his hands rather than his feet.”

Onana has made several high-profile mistakes this season, while De Gea has excelled at Fiorentina.

United boss Ruben Amorim has had a torrid start to life at Old Trafford, and another defeat this weekend could set alarm bells off.
