Bombs that would have caused severe damage went off inside buses in a parking lot within the Bat Yam area in central Israel on Thursday evening.
No injuries have been reported in the terrorist attack which targeted spots that are usually populated during daytime. The explosives all had timers.
News agency TPS-IL said other bombs were found on more buses as security forces commenced an operation to apprehend the planters.
The military authorities in the country have linked the planned mass terror bombing to the Hamas-affiliated terrorists in the West Bank.
Israel’s Transport Minister Miri Regev has cut short his trip and directed that all buses, trains, and light rail trains be checked for possible explosive devices.
Tel Aviv Police District Commander Haim Sargaroff confirmed that the explosives weighed four to five kilograms and were intended to go off Friday morning to cause many casualties.
“This is a large-scale incident and we are deployed to a large number of locations,” he said, adding “We have scanned the trains and buses and are trying to understand how many suspects are involved.”
A statement by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced that the PM was top of the situation with updates from his military secretary. A security meeting will be convened for assessment.
