Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is dealing with disappointment after his costly mistake against Aston Villa, but manager Enzo Maresca remains steadfast in his support.

The young shot-stopper, who took over from Robert Sanchez due to the latter’s poor form, has yet to fully convince as the club’s first-choice keeper.

Jorgensen’s latest error came in the closing moments of Saturday’s match, allowing Marco Asensio’s weak shot to slip through his grasp, sealing a dramatic 2-1 win for Villa.

The 22-year-old has been visibly affected, with Maresca admitting that he is “sad and upset” about the blunder.

Despite this setback, the Chelsea boss dismissed any notion of dropping Jorgensen.

“If we changed players every time there was a mistake, we’d be changing a lot of players,” Maresca stated firmly.

He emphasized the difficulty of the goalkeeper’s role, where every error is magnified.

Chelsea’s struggles extend beyond the goalkeeper position. The team has suffered three defeats in their last four Premier League outings and was recently eliminated from the FA Cup by Brighton. A once-promising title push has faded, with the Blues now sitting seventh in the table.

Looking ahead to Tuesday’s clash against bottom-placed Southampton, Maresca stressed the importance of improving in both penalty areas.

“We always create chances, but the difference has been inside the box—both defensively and offensively,” he noted, urging his side to be more clinical.

Another concern for Chelsea is the recent dip in form of Cole Palmer. After a brilliant first half of the season, he has failed to score since mid-January.

However, Maresca remains unconcerned about his star player’s struggles. “The issue is that we rely on Cole too much,” he explained. “It’s about the team as a whole, not just one player.”

With pressure mounting, Chelsea has an opportunity to regain momentum against Southampton. However, Jorgensen and the rest of the squad must step up to avoid further disappointment.
