Ben Chilwell is on the verge of securing a loan move to Crystal Palace after being sidelined at Chelsea under Enzo Maresca. The left-back, who hasn’t featured in a single Premier League game this season, is expected to complete the switch on transfer deadline day, pending a successful medical at Selhurst Park, according to The Telegraph.
The 28-year-old has been part of Chelsea’s infamous ‘bomb squad’—a group of players excluded from Maresca’s first-team plans. His only appearance this season came in a Carabao Cup tie against Barrow, leaving his future at Stamford Bridge in serious doubt. Despite Chelsea’s inability to offload him in the summer, Palace now offers Chilwell a fresh start.
However, his history of injuries raises concerns, making Monday’s medical a crucial step before the deal is finalized. If everything goes as planned, he will join a confident Crystal Palace squad fresh off a win at Old Trafford.
Despite freezing Chilwell out of his plans, Maresca has praised the defender’s attitude. “Ben has been top. Very professional, works hard. I feel shame because of that situation, but in terms of behavior, he has been very good,” the Chelsea boss said in January.
Meanwhile, Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka is also heading out on loan, joining Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season. Fabrizio Romano reports that the deal includes an option to buy, though the fee surpasses his £40m release clause.
Unlike Chilwell, Chukwuemeka has seen some action this season, making four appearances in the Europa Conference League, though he has yet to feature in the Premier League. He, too, will undergo a medical on Monday before finalizing his move.
