Deportivo La Coruna has rejected Chelsea’s bid to sign Yeremay Hernandez in the January transfer window. The 22-year-old winger, who has been one of the standout performers in Spain’s Segunda Division, has scored eight goals and provided three assists in just 18 games this season.
Despite Deportivo’s struggles, currently sitting in 17th place, Hernandez has drawn interest from top clubs, including Chelsea and AC Milan.
Chelsea identified Hernandez as a key target to strengthen their attacking options and reportedly submitted an opening bid of €10m (£8.5m). The plan was to sign him this winter and immediately loan him to Todd Boehly’s Strasbourg for the remainder of the season.
However, Deportivo remains adamant about keeping the player, with reports from Marca confirming their refusal to negotiate midway through the campaign.

Hernandez, whose contract with Deportivo runs until 2030 and includes a €20m (£17m) release clause, expressed uncertainty about his future. “I don’t know, I’m talking to my agent. If I leave, it will be to take a step forward,” he said following Deportivo’s recent 1-1 draw with Malaga.
Deportivo’s general manager, Massimo Benassi, reinforced the club’s stance, stating that both Hernandez and his agents are aware of their clear position.

Meanwhile, Chelsea is also pursuing Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel. The Blues reportedly considered offering Christopher Nkunku in a potential swap deal.
However, Bayern Munich’s sporting director Christoph Freund firmly rejected Chelsea’s approach, emphasizing Tel’s importance to Vincent Kompany’s plans at the Allianz Arena.
“Our clear plan is for Mathys to make his breakthrough here,” Freund said, highlighting the forward’s talent and integral role in Bayern’s squad.
Chelsea’s search for attacking reinforcements continues as they face challenges securing their top targets this January.
