One of Chelsea’s most expensive transfers, Mykhailo Mudryk, has been slammed as a “disaster” as doubts over his Premier League future grow.
The Blues edged out Arsenal to sign the Ukrainian winger from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023 for an initial £62 million, plus £27 million in add-ons.
Mudryk, who had only made 44 appearances for Shakhtar, arrived at Stamford Bridge with high expectations and a staggering eight-and-a-half-year contract.
His debut cameo against Liverpool showed promise, leading Rio Ferdinand to claim Arsenal might regret missing out on him.
However, Mudryk has struggled to make an impact, managing just ten goals in three seasons.
His Chelsea career hit another roadblock when he was provisionally suspended by the FA after testing positive for a banned substance, leaving him sidelined since November.
Former Premier League star Gabriel Agbonlahor did not hold back in his criticism, pointing out Chelsea’s costly transfer failures.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he highlighted Mudryk among several big-money flops at Stamford Bridge, saying:
“Look at some of the players they’ve spent big money on who just aren’t performing. Mudryk was a disaster of a signing. They’ve wasted so much money.”
Chelsea’s troubles have deepened in recent months, with a dramatic drop from second to sixth in the Premier League. The Blues suffered back-to-back defeats against Brighton, leading manager Enzo Maresca to admit their latest performance was their worst since he took charge.
“This is our worst moment since I arrived, but we are still there and need to finish in the best way,” Maresca said.
With Mudryk’s Chelsea future uncertain and the club’s struggles mounting, Arsenal may have dodged a bullet by missing out on the Ukrainian winger.
