Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Filip Jorgensen will remain the club’s first-choice goalkeeper despite his costly error in the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.
Jorgensen was at fault for Villa’s winning goal, allowing a tame shot from Marco Asensio to squirm under his body.
The 2024 summer arrival has started Chelsea’s last three Premier League matches after replacing Robert Sanchez, who was dropped following a series of high-profile errors.

What Maresca said about Jorgensen’s Chelsea place
Despite the mistake, Maresca is not planning to drop Jorgensen and will keep faith with the 22-year-old for Tuesday’s match against Southampton.
The Danish shot-stopper has started Chelsea’s last three Premier League matches after replacing Robert Sanchez, who was dropped following a series of high-profile errors.

“If we need to change players every time there is a mistake, we need to change many players game by game,” said Maresca ahead of Chelsea taking on Southampton. “Nothing has changed.
“He (Jorgensen) is ok. He feels a little sad or upset because he recognised there was a mistake.”
However, Chelsea will be without defender Trevoh Chalobah for the Southampton match.
The 24-year-old suffered a leg injury against Aston Villa and is expected to be out for up to 10 days.
What next for Chelsea?
Maresca’s men slipped to seventh in the Premier League table after Saturday’s defeat at Villa Park.
The club have lost three of their last four league fixtures — seven overall — to see their Champions League hopes lessen.
Chelsea could return to the top four on Tuesday if they defeat the cellar-dwelling Saints.
