The Jigawa State Consumer Protection Committee has seized counterfeit and adulterated goods from various markets across the state.
The committee’s chairman, Umar Alhaji Bala, made this known during a program on Radio Jigawa, titled Jigawa A Yau.
He stated that the committee was awaiting the approval of Governor Umar Namadi to proceed with the destruction of the confiscated items.
Bala further disclosed that the state government was working towards standardizing weighing scales in markets to curb fraudulent practices in business transactions.
He revealed that arrangements have been finalized to introduce standardized measuring bowls and calibrated scales to promote transparency in trade.
He also issued a stern warning to traders against mixing cassava flour with wheat flour, emphasizing that anyone caught engaging in such malpractice would face legal consequences.
The chairman expressed gratitude to Governor Namadi for his continued support and called on the public to cooperate with the committee in ensuring consumer protection and fair trade practices across the state.
