An Islamic Cleric has warned inmates to learn from their incarceration and resist temptation to return to their old ways.

The cleric, Sanusi Muhammad-Jamiu, popularly known as AmiOlorun, gave the warning while speaking to inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Center, Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

AmiOlorun urged the inmates numbering 1,469 to become the source of happiness to people rather than fight themselves.

He stressed that humanity should always come before religion and appealed to the Muslim faithful among the prisoners to observe the Ramadan fast.

He said, “ Be the source of happiness to people by showing that you have become a man of God. Humanity comes first before religion. I greet those that fate has brought here, go and put your minds at peace, the Lord will grant you freedom. God loves everyone but He knows how He works.

“ We are here today to give you hope. There is no difference between us, the only thing is we have freedom and you don’t, and I know you will get yours soon.

“ Continue in your fellowship with God both Muslims and Christians. Imbibe good character, don’t fight here, you can establish a very beautiful family here. You can’t be here and keep malice or hate anyone, it is not pleasing to God.

“ I know many of you are seeking the face of God, just add good character. there’s no prayer we pray that is not acceptable to God. I want you to observe your fasting in every possible way.

DAILY POST reports that the Islamic preacher also paid the fines of 10 inmates, 9 men and a woman who were held for not meeting their bail requirements after committing various crimes.

He also gave them a sum of N 25,000 each as transportation back to their various home and gave a sum of N100,000 to cover the medications of inmates at the facility.

In his remarks, the State Controller of Corrections, Abioye Adesina, advised inmates to exhibit good behavior and expressed gratitude for the humanitarian gesture of the scholar, urging well-meaning Nigerians to support the facility.

He, however, urged the 10 inmates whose bail conditions were paid for, to become ambassadors saying, “ I don’t want to see you here again. This is an opportunity to become good people, become a good ambassador of this country”.
